The eight-metre bronze sculpture was inspired by stories of floods in Gippsland that left cattle stranded in trees. It’s an unlikely piece of Australian history, brought to life as one of Melbourne’s more unusual public artworks.

This artwork captures the sculpture in its Docklands setting, looking west across Victoria Harbour towards the Bolte Bridge. The Melbourne Ferry Terminal sits right beside it, with ferries arriving and departing across the water, while the Docklands buildings rise behind the marina. Together, the cow, waterfront, skyline and passing ferries create a scene that is unmistakably Docklands.

For visitors, Cow Up a Tree is one of those unexpected discoveries that makes a place stick in your mind. Whether arriving by car, ferry or tram, the waterfront quickly becomes part of the experience. Historic W-Class trams and modern trams connect Docklands with the city, while the sculpture sits watching over the harbour beside the ferry terminal.

This Suburban Icons print captures that slightly surreal corner of Melbourne as a souvenir of Docklands and the memories made there. The familiar waterfront, the city beyond and, of course, a cow hanging upside down in a tree, brought together in the bold graphic language of a modern vintage travel poster.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0985/8629/6623/files/docklands-cow-up-a-tree-suburban-icon-poster-artwork.jpg?v=1788491046
