Yarraville's Former State Savings Bank Suburban Icon Poster

Built in 1909, Yarraville’s former State Savings Bank is a beautiful reminder of the suburb’s early civic ambition. Designed by Melbourne architects Sydney Smith and Ogg at a cost of £1,966, the branch was created during a period when banks were becoming important landmarks in Melbourne’s growing suburbs.

The building blends Art Nouveau and Romanesque influences, with distinctive rectilinear columns, rounded-arch windows and intricate floral and natural motifs. The result is a surprisingly decorative little bank, tucked into the heart of Yarraville and full of architectural details easy to miss as you pass by.

The design also has a connection to another local landmark. Sydney Smith and Ogg were responsible for the Prince Albert Hotel in nearby Williamstown, and the two buildings share some of the same Art Nouveau character.

Today, the former State Savings Bank remains one of Yarraville’s quieter architectural treasures, a reminder of the craftsmanship and ambition that helped shape the suburb more than a century ago.

This Suburban Icons print celebrates a building that might not demand attention like the Sun Theatre or Yarraville’s grander landmarks, but rewards anyone who takes a closer look.

All orders are dispatched within 2 to 3 business days via Australia Post with full tracking.

A4 and A3 prints are sent flat in a rigid box mailer. A2 and A1 prints are rolled in protective paper and dispatched in a heavy-duty postal tube.

You'll receive an order confirmation email when your purchase is complete, followed by a tracking notification once your order is lodged with Australia Post.

Delivery times vary depending on your location. Once an order has been dispatched with a tracking number it cannot be redirected, cancelled or refunded due to delays outside our control.

If your order arrives damaged or is confirmed lost in transit by Australia Post, we will lodge an insurance claim and arrange a replacement. Just get in touch and we'll sort it out.

Please note our responsibility ends once Australia Post confirms successful delivery. We are unable to replace items that are lost, stolen or misplaced after delivery has been completed and photographically confirmed by the carrier.

We want you to love your artwork. As every poster is printed to order, our policy varies by size.

Damaged in transit — contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos of the damage and packaging. We'll arrange a replacement immediately at no cost.

Change of mind — A4 & A3 — we're happy to offer an exchange or store credit within 14 days of delivery. Print must be returned in original sealed packaging. Return shipping is at your expense.

Change of mind — A2 & A1 — we don't accept returns or exchanges on large format prints. Please measure your space carefully before ordering.

Cancellations — contact us within 24 hours of placing your order. If printing has already begun we may not be able to cancel.
