For a generation of Aussie kids raised in the 70s and 80s, legging it to the milk bar wasn’t just a trip to the shops. It was a journey to a world chock-a-block with wonders. After pestering Mum or Dad for a cheeky 20¢ or 50¢, or stashing away our hard-earned cash from chores, we were ready to jump on our bikes and head for the milk bar.

Sometimes we’d splurge on a Sunnyboy on those baking Aussie summer arvos. Every now and then, you’d find a free one printed inside. There were also Paddle Pops, where the real excitement was checking the stick for a free one. Did anyone actually ever win a big prize?

Usually, though, every last cent went on that legendary mixed bag of lollies, each one carefully handpicked by the owner in your very specific combination. Sometimes we wanted to feel like a rebel and nab a box of Fags (now renamed Fads) or a Big Boss cigar, eating every last sickly-sweet bit, including the glue from the gold wrapper.

There were Musk Sticks and Fruit Sticks in bundles, sherbet lollipops that left your tongue bumpy from the tang, and Sherbet Straws. Sometimes they’d pop open at first bite, letting you pour the sherbet straight onto your tongue. Other times, it was a battle of teeth and plastic stretching to get to the good stuff.

And the milk bar was about more than lollies. It was where you’d meet your mates, grab an ice cream, flick through the comics and spend your hard-earned pocket money on whatever took your fancy. It was a little corner of freedom, where the only real deadline was getting home before the streetlights flickered on.

With this Milk Bar print, Suburban Icons celebrates the days when weekends and after-school hours meant complete BMX freedom, summer afternoons stretched forever, and the local milk bar wasn’t just a corner shop. It was a wonderland of sweet possibilities.

All orders are dispatched within 3–5 business days via Australia Post with full tracking.

A4 and A3 prints are sent flat in a rigid box mailer. A2 and A1 prints are rolled in protective paper and dispatched in a heavy-duty postal tube.

You'll receive an order confirmation email when your purchase is complete, followed by a tracking notification once your order is lodged with Australia Post.

Delivery times vary depending on your location. Once an order has been dispatched with a tracking number it cannot be redirected, cancelled or refunded due to delays outside our control.

If your order arrives damaged or is confirmed lost in transit by Australia Post, we will lodge an insurance claim and arrange a replacement. Just get in touch and we'll sort it out.

Please note our responsibility ends once Australia Post confirms successful delivery. We are unable to replace items that are lost, stolen or misplaced after delivery has been completed and photographically confirmed by the carrier.

We want you to love your artwork. As every poster is printed to order, our policy varies by size.

Damaged in transit — contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos of the damage and packaging. We'll arrange a replacement immediately at no cost.

Change of mind — A4 & A3 — we're happy to offer an exchange or store credit within 14 days of delivery. Print must be returned in original sealed packaging. Return shipping is at your expense.

Change of mind — A2 & A1 — we don't accept returns or exchanges on large format prints. Please measure your space carefully before ordering.

Cancellations — contact us within 24 hours of placing your order. If printing has already begun we may not be able to cancel.
